Assignment
Standards 3 and4 and Media Literacy (Common Core)
Winter Olympics
This project will consist of three parts.
Part 1: Written Test on Nov 20 (15 Points)
Part 2: Due Nov. 21 (10 Points)
Part3: Due Jan. 9 (50 Points)
In February 21014 there will be the Winter Olympics. These will be broadcast over many NBC stations and other media. For this project, you are to research about the Olympics in general and specifically these up coming Olympics. Take notes and study them for a written test, in class, on Nov. 20. You will need to find out the history from Ancient Times to the Modern Olympics. When did the Winter Olympics begin and where? Where has the Winter Olympics taken place in the United States? Where are the upcoming Winter Olympics going to be? There are many countries that compete in the Olympics, and multiple sports in the competitions. You will need to begin to find out about these, as the second part will consist of a media presentation of three of them. What special activities are a part of the Olympic Games, but not part of the competitions? Do not limit yourself to these questions—they are guidelines.
On Nov, 21, a written statement (form will be provided) with parent signature will be due regarding your plans for the media presentation. You will be working on this in groups of three. You must decide who will be in your group and what sports you will be presenting. Also, you must choose your form of presentation. This may be a power point, an animoto presentation, or something similar. No ‘You Tube’ presentations will be accepted. The school librarian will be available to work both in class and outside of class. You may submit your final media by email ([email protected]) or on a flash drive (be sure to have it labeled.).
Your media presentation must include information of the February Olympics and have three sports included. Each group member should concentrate on one sport. Do not forget to include your names within the presentation and your references.
